Before turning to the regular agenda, Kathy Hatcher, the mother of the late Sherry Novosad, renewed her family's call for a more thorough investigation into her daughter's death. Hatcher alleged the Liberty County Sheriff's Office ruled the case a suicide at the scene and failed to properly investigate the circumstances surrounding her daughter's death in November 2024.
When Nathan Green accepted the job as Liberty County fire marshal in January 2025, he knew he wasn't stepping into an ordinary position. The office was emerging from one of the most turbulent periods in its history. The former fire marshal and two assistants were arrested and charged with crimes. Public confidence had been shaken, the department was rebuilding from the ground up, and Green would spend much of his first year wearing multiple hats while laying the foundation for a fresh start.
